The island of Isabela is for most visitors to the Galapagos islands the most attractive as you can see iguanas, sharks, mantas, birds, sea turtles and many other animals from close by. Most tourists reach the main town of Puerto Villamila by ferry on boats that are powered by outboard engines with more than a thousand horse power. The trip from Santa Cruz to Isabela normally takes two hours. As for me it was the worst trip of my life: noise, smell, space – 30 people in a small power boat! So we decided to leave the island by plane not knowing that the airport is a statement on its own. Normally four flights a day with a maximum number of passengers of not more than 28. To me the airport looks like a White Elephant.
